arrow In highly advanced and complicated urban cities, it is essential to enhance disaster prevention abilities in order to create a safe living environment. Earthquake disasters are highly dependant on the vibration characteristics of structures as well as on the characteristics of seismic movement. In order to reduce earthquake disasters, it is indispensable to be able to predict and understand expected disasters and the execution of appropriate design. In this laboratory, we deal with a wide range of themes, including prediction of seismic movement, enhancement of seismic design methods for civil structures (bridges, in particular), and development of seismic-resistant and seismic-isolation design methods.

arrow In this laboratory, we are conducting research on the water cycle and water resources on both a global and a regional scale. From the perspective of the water cycle, our specific research themes are securing water resources associated with urbanization, operation of water resources in drought, a wide variety of effective water utilization methods, artificial rainfall, salination of groundwater, behavior of contaminants of groundwater, construction of a sound water cycle system of surface stream water and groundwater, water and environment problems inside and outside of the new campus, climate and abnormal climate due to global warming, and the prediction of cataracts.
