Research Interests: FEM, Computer Simulation

My research is to develop new simulation tools mainly for structural design in civil engineering. FEM for nonlinear continuum mechanics and SPH for fluid dynamics have been utilized in my research. The current main research topic is Fluid-Structure interaction problem to prevent coastal disaster during storm surge and Tsunami.

Research Interests: Seismic design of structures, Earthquake disaster prevention

The starting point of my present study is the disastrous damages caused by the Great Hanshin Earthquake, which I witnessed in 1995. Through the two-pronged operation of numerical analysis and model experiments, I propose new design methods and structures to realize safe and secure civil engineering structures.

Research Interests: Steel structures, Maintenance

Severe corrosion and fatigue damages have been observed in various steel structures. It is important to devise a method of predicting the corrosion and fatigue behavior of the members to ensure the safety of such structures. I am developing the evaluation technique for corrosive environment using corrosion monitoring sensor, corrosion damages using Nondestructive Testing (NDT), time-dependent corrosion behavior using spatial statistics, etc.

Research Interests: Seismic Safety of Bridge Structure, Isolation and Dissipation Device

In order to protect social infrastructure facilities from earthquake "appropriate seismic design" is required, and I think exploring of "appropriate seismic design" is one of our mission future. I am researching on seismic design method for bridge structure, and in particular, focusing on the seismic retrofit and seismic design methods using various isolation and dissipation devices.

Research Interests: Construction materials, Concrete

My research interests include durability of concrete structures and recycling of by-products for concrete materials. Concrete is used for various civil structures and supports our daily lives. Current research is focused on microstructure and mechanical properties of cement-based materials and labor-saving by using precast concrete blocks.

Research Interests: PC-based simulation, Impact phenomenon

In order to protect our life from disasters and maintain social capital, my laboratory is studying two kinds of issues. The one is to evaluate structures safety against disasters such as derailment accident using numerical simulations. The other is to develop an efficient impact hammering test system for existing aging structures by acoustic analysis.

Research Interests: Structural analysis, Impact mechanics

My specialty is structural engineering. I have studied and will keep to study under the slogan of “To construct a secure and safe infrastructure and society from the view point of structural engineering.” Especially, I have studied about evaluation of impact resistant performance of a Reinforced Concrete (RC) structure against hard impact by using Finite Element Method (FEM).

Research Interests: Social environment creation, Environmental friendly material development, Life extension of structures

The English word “civil engineer” means, in my opinion, “an engineer who is engaged in the creation of social environment.” From day to day, I continue my study in civil engineering to create a safe and comfortable social environment for people to live in

Research Interests: Bridge, Structural design

Roads and railways are very important means of traffic and transportation in our daily lives, and toward this, bridges are an indispensable part. My study theme is to safely and economically construct and maintain these bridges.

Research Interests: Hybrid structure, New materials

My childhood dream was to become a pilot, but now I'm studying bridges (superstructures, including girder and deck in particular) that tower high and strong on the ground. On the basis of a prospect that the load of vehicles passing over bridges will further reduce in the future, I am working on the possibilities of new forms of bridges using new materials such as carbon fiber and light weight concrete.
